Camp Mak-A-Dream Volunteer

CAMP VOLUNTEERS

One of the main reasons Camp Mak-A-Dream is a magical place is because of the people who come to be part of our seasonal staff. During the summer season we hire around 100+ volunteers to assist us in running Camp. We also rely on volunteers to help out during our Adult Retreats in the Spring and Fall. Camp volunteers must be at least 18 years old. We look for enthusiastic, safety-conscious and caring individuals whose first priority is the well-being of the campers. A background working with children, teens or young adults, as well as experience at other camps is helpful but not required. All prospective staff members participate in an extensive application and interview process. All cabin volunteers must be CPR certified and everyone volunteering at camps hosting minors participate in a criminal background check.

Volunteers assist in many areas of Camp and work closely with our full-summer staff to provide the best experience possible for our Campers. We could not do our work without our volunteers.

Cabin Volunteers:  Work with Cabin Leaders to support and assist campers 24 hours a day. They sleep in the cabins, participate in activities and offer continuous support, encouragement and companionship to campers.

Dream Team: Volunteers on the Dream Team work “behind the scenes”, helping out in the kitchen, dining room and lodge, doing everything from cooking and setting up tables to cleaning up at the end of the meal. Program Assistant positions are also available for people with special skills or talents.

Medical Staff:  Each camp session has a dedicated medical staff made up of volunteer doctors and nurses from around the country. The medical team reviews camper medical files, administers medications and handles any medical emergencies 24 hours a day. We welcome medical professionals including MD, PA, NP, and RN.

Program Assistants:  On occasion, we also have volunteers at some session who assist with various program activities from photography, to special art projects to games, sports and events. There are a limited number of these positions available, so please contact us before applying.

All volunteer staff receives information prior to their arrival to help prepare them for their stay. Once at Camp, volunteers will participate in an orientation. Summer Core Staff is prepared to answer questions as they arise and guide volunteers throughout the week. Our goal is to give volunteers what they need so that together we can achieve our ultimate goal, to give campers the best week of their lives.

The 2017 schedule is posted. The application process will open for all spring and summer volunteer positions starting January 9, 2017.
