MEDICAL SUPERVISION

Each session has a dedicated medical staff led by a volunteer physician and 1-3 registered nurses, at least one of which is familiar with age-appropriate oncology. Our on-site health center is a stand out facility where we administer cancer treatments and can even isolate patients if medically necessary.

The medical team meets one on one with campers on arrival day and the camp staff is informed of any specific medical issues and/or limitations (such as swimming, sun exposure etc.). Medications are collected and distributed by the medical staff at all camps serving minors. Young adult attendees may choose to store their medications and have them distributed as well. The presence of the medical staff is non-intrusive to the daily activities at Camp but they are available 24 hours a day to address the needs of the campers.

Some campers will have been out of treatment for years, others are just beginning. We encourage participants in the midst of treatment to attend. Our medical team is able to administer advanced treatment such as oral chemo therapy, IV antibiotics and blood tests. The medical team is also able to initiate septic workup and obtain lost, forgotten, or unanticipated medication 24 hours per day.

Our health center has three private rooms which allow for close monitoring 24 hours per day. One room is equipped for protective isolation and negative flow. Camp is a 20 minute drive to the community hospital and a one hour drive to a major medical center. For emergencies, we have a helicopter pad for urgent medical evacuation.
