YOUNG ADULT CONFERENCE
The Young Adult Conference (YAC) is a unique experience for young adults (ages 18-35) in various stages of cancer therapy or those that have completed treatment.
As a young adult, everything is ahead of you-college, career, marriage, family. Cancer interrupts in the cruelest of ways. Young adult cancers have high mortality rates, the treatments can be life altering, moreover, young adults with cancer face unique financial concerns, such as occupational disability or the loss of health insurance.
Our young adult programs address these serious issues in a setting that combines the content of a conference with the joy of camp. Breakout sessions and speakers cover a broad range of topics, from the long-term effects of cancer therapies to employment to disclosure and relationship issues. At the same time, Camp is an opportunity to blow off steam. Participants rise to the challenge of the ropes course, climb the butte, sing songs around the campfire and show off their talents in the talent show. Young adults tell us that Camp helps them face an uncertain future by connecting them to people their age with similar challenges and experiences.
Camp gives them more than just a great week. It gives them a community they can turn to for answers and support.
